BUYING GUIDE · TECH

How to compare Black Friday TV deals.

A lower price matters only if the television fits your room, your devices, and the way you watch. Use this guide to compare the details before Black Friday noise takes over.

Quick rule:Compare model numbers and the full setup cost before comparing discount percentages.

01

Pick the room, then the size

Start with where the TV will live and how far away you sit. Bigger is not always better in a small room, and a very inexpensive screen can be a poor fit if its size forces uncomfortable viewing. Measure first, including the stand or wall-mount space.

02

Compare the actual model

Retailers often carry similar-looking models with small but important differences. Match the full model number before comparing prices. Check the panel size, year or product generation, included remote, number of inputs, and whether a listing is a store-specific variant.

03

Match display features to your viewing

Consider brightness and reflection handling for a bright room, viewing angle for a wide seating area, and contrast for movie watching in a dim room. Product marketing terms vary, so focus on the situations you care about rather than one headline specification.

04

Do not overlook connections and gaming

If you use a game console, soundbar, receiver, or antenna, check input count and the features those devices need. For gaming, confirm the supported resolution and refresh-rate capabilities for the exact HDMI inputs—not just the product family.

05

Price the complete setup

Include delivery, mounting, a sound solution if needed, cables, and the retailer’s return window. The best-looking TV price can be less attractive once the whole setup is considered.

WHEN DEALS ARRIVE

We’ll call out the context, not just the price.

Published TV deals will name the retailer, exact variation, price, useful comparison context, and relevant trade-offs.
